This Shakyamuni Buddha is carved entirely by hand, then cast using the lost wax method. Over 8 artists work on each of these statues, carving, making wax molds, pouring hot bronze, painting the gold faces and eyes and hand painting them. A master artisan did all the finishing work, taking weeks to complete the painting of robes and lotus petals with such intricate details. The
